With this project I wanted to create a serene, simple image that might hang on a wall as a decoration- 2D, but with depth.
A crescent moon is generally a symbol of sleep and relaxation, and giving the moon somewhat whimsical eyes and ‘swiss cheese craters’ was meant to enhance that feeling. I tried to create an archetypal crescent moon like one might see in an old animation, and mimic the expression and feeling of it without the addition of color. This project was intended to have a nostalgic effect for me, and I believe that I succeeded in that goal.
